Feminism- a confused concept

I am no bra burning feminist, even though I am one but I won’t dare to call myself a one. Thanks to a few mindless women, the word had acquired such a wrong notion. The word has been thoroughly abused by little read so called classy and elite women to show off their aristocracy .I would prefer to introduce myself as a believer of sexual equality(later is the dictionary definition the word, yet I prefer the extended version).

I am not a hypocrite. Nor am I trying to sound western and rebellious.. Nor do I speak my mind to gain attention. I am not a male basher either. Feminism doesn’t mean male bashing. Feminism, according to me, is being in touch with woman inside us.

For ages, Men have used women for venting their insecurities and frustration. Women are taught to occupy secondary position in the society. As if she is an object whose ownership lies with patriarchal head of her family and is transferred to her husband upon her marriage. She has always been treated as a property whose proprietor is the men she is living with. It’s not the fault with either a man or a woman. The problem lies in the mindset with which we perceive things. The way things happen have always been taken for granted n very few ever cared to question. I have seen educated women in today’s society still yearning a male child. Masculinity has always been defined as a state where a man has a woman under his feet. Education of a girl has very little to do with her being self reliant. She’s educated with a hope that she ‘ll get a nice educated groom. The reason why love marriages are still opposed in our society is because in this case a girl gets to choose in contrast to its arranged counterpart where a guy selects from a pile thrown at his feet.

I have a distant relative(hope he reads this) reprimanding his wife for not wearing sindur and bindis . I just fail to understand why husbands have to equate their position with that of God! Why do they always have to behave as alpha males and guardians of their wife? Why can’t they give their wife the respect, and most importantly the space she deserves? Why can’t she be allowed be have her personal choice?
Lastly, no matter how many laws are drafted, unless and until a woman doesn’t start speaking her mind, nobody can help her.
She has to shun her servile mindset, let her captive wishes to wander and stop stifling her desires. Most importantly, SHE SHOULD STOP BEHAVING LIKE A DOOR MAT.
